If all you’ve been cooking in your air fryer are the usual things like roast chicken, potato fries, and whatnot, it’s time to amp up your cooking game.

It’s amazing how you can do so much with your air fryer. Think crispy pork belly and glazed doughnuts. Try these recipes from our favourite bestselling cookbook author and recipe developer Tenina Holder.

Crispy Pork Belly Recipe

  • 1kg boneless pork belly, scored, without cutting the meat. Choose a piece slightly larger than your air fryer dish as it will shrink back a little.
  • 1L boiling water
  • 2 pinches pink salt flakes
  • 1 tbsp vinegar (apple cider or white wine)
  • 20g extra virgin olive oil
  • A handful of fresh coriander to serve
  • Sliced red chillies to serve
  • Steamed Asian greens to serve

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 200C.
  2. Score pork belly very well without cutting through the fat layer completely. Place pork belly onto the rack that fits in the air fryer and place into a sink. Pour over boiling water, allowing it to drain away. Pat dry with a paper towel.
  3. Rub skin with salt, vinegar and extra virgin olive oil, finishing off with extra salt.
  4. Place pork belly into the air fryer and cook for 30 to 35 minutes at 200C. Check and add a few minutes if needed.
  5. Garnish pork with fresh coriander and chillies, and serve hot with dipping sauce.

Sticky Dipping Sauce

  • 1 clove garlic
  • 30g fresh ginger
  • 1 red chilli
  • 3 tbsp coconut sugar
  • 30g dark soy sauce
  • 1 pinch pink salt flakes

  1. Crush garlic, dice ginger and chilli and combine with all ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Cook on a medium saucepan over medium heat for a couple of minutes until fragrant and sticky.

Glazed Donuts Recipe

For the dough
  • 2 tsp caster sugar
  • 2 tsp dried instant yeast
  • 1 egg
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 250ml whole milk
  • 60g butter
  • 2 pinches pink salt flakes (ground down a bit with your fingers as you pinch it)
  • 600g Bakers flour
  • 20g coconut oil
For the glaze
  • 30g coconut oil, melted
  • 300g pure icing sugar
  • 1 lime juice as needed

To make the dough
  1. Beat together sugar, yeast, egg and yolks, milk and butter in a mixing bowl. Using a medium saucepan, warm over very low heat until just room temperature. Tip into a mixer with a kneading attachment.
  2. Add salt and flour and mix. Knead until pulling away from the sides of the bowl and holding shape when you press the dough with your thumb.
  3. Tip onto a floured baking mat and knead into a tight ball. Wrap and allow to double before proceeding.
  4. Divide the dough in half and either refrigerate one half for another day or set aside and cover.
To shape the Doughnuts
  1. Roll out the dough to a large rectangle about 2cm thick in depth.
  2. Cut doughnuts using a round cutter and a smaller one to remove the ‘hole’. Lay them onto a lined baking sheet. Brush with melted coconut oil.
  3. Cover and allow them to rise for around 30 minutes minimum. When you are ready to cook, preheat the air fryer to 200C and remove the insert tray. When the fryer is preheated, place as many doughnuts (approximately, four) as you can fit on the tray without touching and place into the fryer.
  4. Cook for exactly 3 minutes. Remove and place onto a cooling rack set on top of a lined baking tray. Repeat until all your doughnuts are cooked.
To make the glaze
  1. Stir all ingredients together vigorously in a small saucepan until smooth and clear. The glaze should be quite pourable.
  2. Pour or brush over the cooked and still warm doughnuts. Eat!

    1. Hi there, Isabelle. Recipe calls for 600g Bakers flour and is added to the blog. Thanks for noticing!

  1. Cooked the pork tonight – overdid the salt little (OK a lot) but cooked really well in the Tefal air fryer so next time will be careful with the salt but super impressed at how nice it was in such a short time.
