A real crowd pleaser—French crepes can be eaten hot or cold and sweet or savoury. Thin and crispy on the sides, these French street-food staples are easy to make, even kids can help you whip them up in the kitchen.

French love crepes for a reason. They are a party rockstay, versatile in nature, and easy to make. They can be dressed up with a number of toppings and flavourful fillings and requires simple ingredients. Give it a try at home, and you can make them as simple or as elaborate as you like.



  • 3 eggs
  • 2 to 3 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 to 3 tbsp sugar (omit if you’re making a savoury crepe)
  • A pinch of salt
  • Cooking oil for frying


  1. Beat eggs, milk and melted butter in a large bowl.
  2. Sift in flour, sugar (if using) and salt. Using an electric mixer, beat the two mixtures together until you achieve a smooth, lump-free batter.
  3. Lightly grease your pan then place over medium high heat. Pour out any excess oil.
  4. Pour a medium-sized ladle (¼ cup) of batter in the frypan and swirl around until the whole cooking surface is covered with a thin layer of batter.
  5. When batter sets in about a minute, turn over the crepe and cook the other side for another minute or so until both are golden brown.
  6. Serve with your favourite filling. Fold the crepe in quarter or roll it up.


  • Crepe pan: To make perfectly thin and crispy French crepes, use a 25cm crepe pan or any other flat-bottomed pans in the same size.
  • Make-ahead: You can store cooked crepes in the fridge for up to two days. Simply ensure to store them on a plate, separated by layers of wax paper and cover up with plastic wrap. For reheating, it’s best to use a pan brushed with a little melted butter. Crepes reheated in the microwave can be unpleasantly soggy.
  • Filling ideas: Be it sweet or savoury, filling crepes are easy. They are versatile enough to accommodate your cravings! Jam, chocolate spread, honey, maple syrup, apple compote, fruits, nut butters, whipped cream, ice cream, nuts and coconut are just a few of the most popular fillings on the list.
