But what if there is an even healthier way of having your daily dose of yoghurt? Despite what frozen yoghurt companies say, we don’t have a guaranteed way of knowing what goes in the yoghurt cup. Thankfully, we now have frozen yoghurt makers that can help us create homemade cups of our favourite desserts without having to guess what exactly goes into each serving.

A good batch of yoghurt shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes to whip up. They are great for first-time users of such machinery, because they are equipped with an easy-lock lid, an automatic mixing arm, a thermostat regulator and a large spout for easy pouring of ingredients. The package also includes a helpful recipe booklet and an instruction manual.

No-Nonsense Yoghurt Recipes
Here’s a compilation of our best recipes which you can work with after creating your own yoghurt:
- 3 cups full-fat plain yoghurt
- 3/4 cup caster sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1 packed cup quartered fresh strawberries
- 2 tbsp icing sugar
- Combine the yoghurt, sugar, vanilla extract and lemon juice in a large mixing bowl and stir well.
- Pour the mixture into the ice cream maker and process until almost set.
- Meanwhile, blend the berries and the icing sugar in a food processor until puréed, strain mixture through a strainer.
- Once the frozen yoghurt is almost set, add the berry puree to the yoghurt and allow to spin, making a swirl coloured yoghurt.
- Transfer to a container and freeze covered until serving.
- 340 g fat-free yoghurt in preferred flavour
- 80 g fresh strawberries, washed, hulled and sliced
- 80 g fresh blueberries
- 30 g puffed wheat, kamut or millet cereal
- Put 3-4 spoonfuls of the yoghurt into a container.
- Add half the strawberries.
- Layer with a few more spoonfuls of yoghurt.
- Add half the puffed wheat, kamut or millet cereal.
- Spread another layer of yoghurt on top.
- Add half the blueberries.
- Layer yoghurt over the berries.
- Repeat until all ingredients have been used up.
- Serve immediately.
